Marzipan and orange plait with mascarpone cream

Method


  1. To make the marzipan orange plait, preheat oven 180C/350F/Gas 4.

  2. Roll out the puff pastry to form a large rectangle.

  3. Place the marzipan down the centre of the puff pastry and top with the orange slices.

  4. Drizzle with honey and sprinkle with cinnamon.

  5. Cut the sides of pastry making the cuts about one inch markings apart. Plait the pastry across the middle.

  6. Brush with the beaten egg and place plait onto baking tray.

  7. Cook in a pre-heated oven for 20 minutes until golden.

  8. Dust with icing sugar and serve.

  9. To make the mascarpone cream, mix the whipped cream and mascarpone together in a bowl to a smooth thick consistency. Serve with the orange plait.

Ingredients

For the orange plait

  • 250g/9oz puff pastry
  • 150g/5½oz marzipan, cut
  • 2 oranges, peeled, segmented and sliced
  • into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • ½ tsp of cinnamon
  • 1 free-range egg, beaten
  • 2 tbsp of icing sugar

For the mascarpone cream

  • 55ml/2fl oz double cream, whipped
  • 125g/4oz mascarpone
